Dan Hughes is a UK-based independent musician whose career spans international touring, festival appearances, session work with Grammy-winning artists, and a steadily growing global fanbase. Over the past decade, Hughes has built a reputation as a hard-working and versatile artist in an ever-changing musical landscape. As legendary producer Bob Power (A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, D’Angelo, The Roots) noted:
“Great, and it seems that you have quite a career going.”

Surrounded by music from an early age, Hughes began performing in local bands before enrolling at the highly regarded BIMM (British and Irish Modern Music Institute) at the age of 16. There he studied under world-class musicians including Mark Knopfler, Guthrie Govan, and Kelly Joe Phelps, while simultaneously performing in multiple bands and appearing at notable events such as the Brighton Udderbelly Festival.

After leaving Brighton, Hughes returned to the Midlands and began performing solo, quickly establishing himself as a regular fixture at respected venues such as The Musician in Leicester. From there, his live schedule expanded rapidly, leading to extensive touring across the Midlands and the wider UK, often performing up to 250 shows a year. These years on the road helped Hughes hone his craft as a working musician, while also opening opportunities to perform across Europe.

Alongside his solo work, Hughes formed the Dan Hughes Trio. In 2016, the trio released their debut album Neil, which led to tours across Europe, the Far East, and the Caribbean. Released through UK/Indian independent label Panda Records, Neil became the first indie release issued jointly across European and Asian territories, gaining a dedicated cult following. A return tour to the Far East followed in 2017, including dates across South Korea, performances at the Green Blue Festival, and an appearance on Korean television show Band of Dreams.

In 2018, Hughes returned to the UK to work as a session musician, playing guitar on the UK tour of US Grammy-winning artist Janet Robin (Lindsey Buckingham, Randy Rhoads), and later performing bass guitar for X Factor duo The Shures. Alongside this session work, Hughes continued touring as a solo artist and began writing material for the follow-up to Neil.

Following a short break from live performance, Hughes released the String EP, which received positive industry reviews. The lead track, Feels Like Thunder, was later remixed by US indie artist Life at Super 8, helping to expand Hughes’ audience in North America.

During the 2020 lockdown period, Hughes shifted focus toward composition and collaboration, creating music for podcasts, short films, and independent media projects with creatives from around the world. Drawing on his years of experience, he also launched an online music tuition service, which has since grown into a solid teaching base both domestically and internationally.

In recent years, Hughes has returned to an intensive live schedule, performing hundreds of shows across the UK both as a solo artist and within various projects. In 2024, he collaborated with legendary bassist Sean Hurley (John Mayer, Lizzy McAlpine, Gwen Stefani, Jason Mraz, Lukas Graham, Colbie Caillat). Continuing his upward momentum, 2025 has seen Hughes perform at festivals including Flitton and Greenfield, supporting chart-topping 2000s pop band Scouting for Girls.

Dan Hughes is currently touring throughout the UK and beyond, continuing to build his audience while balancing performance, collaboration, and education as a modern independent musician.
